What are archetypes?

Archetypes are Grounded 2’s character classes. Obsidian describes the system as a way to “shape your adventure” — each archetype offers distinct abilities matched to a different play style. They’re one of the sequel’s headline additions alongside Buggies.

02

The three playstyles

Obsidian has showcased three directions:

  • Precision — for players who value careful, accurate play
  • Cunning — for tactical, trickier approaches
  • Strength — for direct, powerful builds

Specific skill trees, names and endgame builds are still being detailed as early access progresses.

How to choose

Pick the archetype that matches how you like to fight. If you want to feel powerful in melee, strength suits you; if you prefer timing and technique, precision fits; and if you like controlling the fight, cunning is your lane. Obsidian has also said more archetypes could arrive with future updates, so your choice isn’t a one-way door.
