What are Buggies?
Buggies are Grounded 2’s signature system: insect companions you hatch, raise and ride. Obsidian’s pitch is that “the right partner could mean the difference between thriving and barely surviving.” They serve three roles — transport, combat and resource gathering.
Red Soldier Ant Buggy
The Red Soldier Ant Buggy is the first Buggy most players unlock. It crunches through dead roots blocking routes across the park, which is essential for story progress (for example, reaching the Spicy Glob chest in Pine Hill).
Orb Weaver Buggy
The Orb Weaver Buggy is unlocked late in the story:
- Complete the Networking quest (the 15th story quest).
- Pick up the Network Center TURBO Optical Disk in the room after the final boss.
- Insert the disk at any Ranger Station to learn the hatching recipe.
- Find an Orb Weaver Egg — they’re under the headless BURG.L in the middle of the map.
- Hatch it at your Hatchery — incubation takes 24 in-game hours.
Its saddle needs Acorn Shells, Blueberry Leather and Crude Rope. The Orb Weaver Buggy can cross web bridges, opening routes other mounts can’t reach.
More Buggies (roadmap)
The Beat the Heat update added a Buggy progression system and the Black Soldier Ant Buggy, and Obsidian’s year-two roadmap promises new mounts in Fall 2026.
